Transcript: “I’ve always been interested in family law. People always say, ‘Oh, isn’t that depressing?’ But, you know, it’s really not because in the last hearing, nine times out of ten, people are really happy; they’re excited to be moving on to something else in their life, something that’s more helpful.
A young woman who had immigrated to this country from Africa was in a situation of an arranged marriage, and once she got here she suffered pretty extreme domestic violence and ended up being thrown out of her home while she was pregnant, with literally just the clothes on her back. But she had such amazing courage and wanted to make a better life for herself and for her daughter. I represented her and we assisted her in getting a divorce and, ultimately, once her daughter was born, she got custody and then child support.
Her story is one that sticks with me.”
