Transcript: “I have now been with Legal Aid for four years. I never really wanted to go do the big corporate thing. I wanted to make my law experience meaningful.
I was able to help a child with diabetes. His day care wouldn’t provide him with appropriate accommodations. We wanted staff to check our client’s blood sugar, learn how to work his insulin pump, train to administer what’s called “glucagon” in case he passes out or goes into a seizure. He was only in kindergarten, so he still needed supervision and he needed people who knew how to do that. We were able to negotiate a settlement that implemented policy changes at the day care and provided my client with some compensatory damages.
I was quite fortunate to have two loving parents who provided for the family, loved us kids. There are other people who aren’t as fortunate as you are, and you should give back.”
