Legal Aid Advocate’s Work Receives National Award
Tonya Long, an Advocate with Legal Aid’s Youth Law Project, has given her time and energy to the work of the Hennepin County American Indian Family Project, designed to mend the poor working relationship between the American Indian community and the child protection system. The Project has recently been awarded the 2009 Achievement Award from the National Association of Counties for its innovation and success. In particular, the award honors ICWA Education Days, which brings together American Indian community members and child protection professionals for training on the laws, values and basic principles of American Indian Culture. Tonya Long has contributed significantly to the project’s success, and Legal Aid is proud to call her one of our own.
