Senior Law Project
Funded under contract with the Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging as part of the Older Americans Act Program, the Senior Law Unit gives older community members a voice in all aspects of their lives. We help Minnesotan seniors with myriad issues, including Social Security, Medical Assistance, Medicare, housing, consumer rights, grandparents’ rights and nursing home challenges. Clients over the age of 60 rely on Legal Aid for referrals, advice and direct representation.
The Legal Aid Society of Minneapolis offers the following legal services to seniors living in Hennepin County with these issues:
- Housing
- Public Benefits (Social Security, SSI, MSA, GA, food stamps)
- Health care (Medicare, Medical Assistance, Elderly Waiver Program, Alternative Care Program)
- Grandchild care and custody
- Consumer
- Utilities
- Advice and referral on conciliation court, powers of attorney, health care directives, basic wills
